Glued Up-issue 2 2007

Welcome to issue 2. We're in severe danger of falling into a state of publishing frequency. And we've got pictures, good God!

Since the last missive ModelKraft 2007 in Milton Keynes and the Peterborough show have been and gone and both the London and Nuremburg Toy Fairs have happened.

The club display at MK was undoubtedly the best on record . Big vote of thanks to Simon on the organisation, and to everyone who participated. Also copious congratulations to Hadleigh on his gong.

Both Toy Fairs yielded plenty of new items, but no real surprises. Revell looked about the strongest brand on show. Their new Lancaster tool will be snapped up by many-expect it to arrived tail end of 2007. Italeri's boxing of the Accurate Miniatures' Il-2 will be the steal of the year at £15.

It was good to see Airfix back and alive, but they'll take a year to really get going. Expect their early Mk1 Spitfire to be in the shops in May, with the RNLI Lifeboat following. There's a show report on the Model Airplane International website that shows off the latest releases.

Peterborough Show 2007

Saturday 3 rd March, 6am , the alarm goes off - inhuman! Then I remembered - the annual pilgrimage to Peterborough Town Hall - and the copious plastic! Armed with renewed enthusiasm, the short trundle up the A1 was completed without a hitch. In spite of the difficulties with the lift, safe arrival at the club table was achieved. This year we were ensconced in the main hall, next to the tombola stand. A number of traders who had attended in the past were conspicuous by their absence but there were still enough bargains to go round. All too soon it was time for the awards be handed out. Hadleigh won a 1 st for a diorama, his second gong in consecutive shows, and Simon won best in show for his mammoth rail gun, a brilliant success that pleased him a little. Then the trip home at the end of a long but successful day for everyone.

ModellBrno 2007 June 23 rd
I attended this show last year, and if you can spare time and cash it is worth the trip. Held on a Saturday in one of the best purpose built venues in Europe , over 3,500 people attend. There are usually 60-80 traders. If you want to get hold of resin and etch bargains it's a must. Highlight of the day is the model throwing contest-the sight of a Tamiya Panzer IV exploding on concrete is wonderful to behold. Brno is one of Europe 's best kept secrets and has a good technical museum. Both beer and food are cheap and good.

You need to book Friday off for travelling out, with a return on the Sunday. You need to budget £100 for flights and about £20-40 for accommodation, plus beer and spending money. Departure Friday 13.40, return, 17.10 Sunday

I will be booking my slot in the next two weeks so if anyone wants to come let me know now. I will need money up front prior to booking if you want me to book flights online. Remember you don't get refunds off Ryanair, so once you hand over your money you are committed.

The Stars Also Make Models
Back in 2003 The Daily Mail published a list of stars' Christmas wish lists. When it came to Elton John he expressed a desire for a stash of Airfix kits. So with this in mind, his latest album

Goodbye Trainer Yellow Brick Road
